Haven't verified it myself, but apparently Fallout 1 is free until midnight on the Steam store.

I have a boxed edition that doesn't require steam....
Loving fantasy since 1960 or so, FRPGs since 1975 (appx), and CRPGs since 1985....

When the Dark comes rising, six shall turn it back,
Three from the Circle, three from the track;
Wood, bronze, iron; water, fire, stone:
Five will return, and one go on alone.

Beware, if you download from steam it will try to update Fallout 4 for the creation club. Go immediately into downloads and stop them before they really get started. ;)

I got boogered already by it, and I'm not sure how. I stopped the update ASAP, and took Steam offline, but somewhere along the way, it happened anyway.

Thank the Nine that the F4SE team hammers out updates so often.

I got it free from GoG last year, when Beth put Morrowind, Oblivion, and all of the Fallouts (except 4) on there.

GoG is DRM-free, and you don't need to run their front-end for any of their games.

I'm still trying to get a handle on how GoG works. The only successful way I have found to download game, is with the Galaxy client, guess I don't need it to play though. Then there is the issue of one game crashing at start. They recommend installing DX9, but I haven't tried that yet.

Reading the reviews, it seems like a lot of their people have issues getting some of their games to work. Kinda makes me leery of buying much. :|

I have a lot of GoG games, and only one so far that won't run on my PC. I have had a couple of problems with their Linux/Wine setups.

If a game doesn't work for you, and support can't get it working, GoG will give you a refund.

You should be able to download via your browser, if you don't want to use Galaxy. Just log into your account, and go to your Library. You should get a display of your games, and selecting one brings you to a screen with download options. (Linux users have to do it this way.)

I downloaded like glargg said, with my browser, for the one game I have. (that I won, but as it was a mystery prize, not my thing so have never tried to play it) But it downloaded fine, lol.

Unfortunately, my download speed run around 100kbs. Even a small game takes 12-24 hours. With Galaxy interrupted downloads aren't a problem, but I've made three attempts with the browser method, and STILL not gotten it.

First world problem I know, but living out in the sticks has it's price!

Ah, understood. So download and install with Galaxy, then turn off Galaxy and run it from the desktop. You don't need Galaxy to run a GoG game.

Or you can use Galaxy, and turn off all the extra stuff in there. That's the way I do it. You can even turn off automatic updates, I think.
