And here is where I'll keep y'all updated on what I'm doing for Christmas.

This year's gifts: winter hats.

Ooooo - faded raspberry! Gorgeous color!
Loving fantasy since 1960 or so, FRPGs since 1975 (appx), and CRPGs since 1985....

When the Dark comes rising, six shall turn it back,
Three from the Circle, three from the track;
Wood, bronze, iron; water, fire, stone:
Five will return, and one go on alone.

Haha my usual winter hat has those. They've got yarn braids hanging from them and a pompom on the top.

Gonna try another style of hat and probably wear that and this one over winter. :3

Ack! Now I've got this mental image of a raven wearing a fur hat with flaps, and I can't get it out of my head! :6:

I need to refine my technique a little bit, but I'm out of yarn.

Got some on order, but it won't be here for a few days. Gonna buy a few balls today. :3

First project failure.

Hat I was making for my sister in law looks, quite frankly, like shit. It's mushrooming quite badly.

Sighs.

Can't you unravel and save the yarn Saki? I don't know enough about it, but seems like I've heard of some doing that.

One can, just probably not good for re-knitting the hat. Can be used to crochet into a potholder, trivet, etc. where one tightens the form and the yarn is more forgiving.

I used about a quarter of the skein. I'll have to buy new yarn, but it gives me a chance to figure out the pattern.

This was Järbo Ylle superwash wool. It was very fuzzy and it makes seeing stitches made with the recommended 4mm hook incredibly hard to see.

I'm looking into other yarn that I'll probably use a bigger hook with.

I'm also looking into market bags. The idea is to make hat's for everyone and a set of coasters and maybe a table runner for mom and sister in law. Then wrap them up and present in reusable shopping bags I made.

I dont think the yarn would make a good potholder. It's wool. Not sure if it's "I'm gonna light myself in fire" or not.

I cant use acrylic for household goods like coasters or potholder or anything involving heat or it'll melt. So I'm buying a bunch of cotton. I'm also planning on buying a few cakes of acrylic for a sweater. I want to try this cocoon cardigan pattern I found and if it works well enough, make them for mom and sister in law for next year. :3

I *think* I remember seeing something in the way of a fire retardant for cloth - not sure where now, of course as it's been a while. It was a powder you mixed with water, then soaked the item in until thoroughly wet, then let air dry IIRC. A search might turn something up?

Boric Acid can be used as a fire retardant.
