Well.... I got reminded of this tonight by a thread on the ESO forum.
The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes was actually my first love story (I was about 8 - and the poem was included in the Childcraft book series, which was "meant" for young children....)
I've never forgotten the first time I read it. It was.... unbelievably moving. An epiphany for an 8 year old.... that someone could love a man to the point of killing herself to warn him....
Then - Loreena Mckennit's version.
Okay, I'm crying. Sue me.
Loving fantasy since 1960 or so, FRPGs since 1975 (appx), and CRPGs since 1985....
When the Dark comes rising, six shall turn it back,
Three from the Circle, three from the track;
Wood, bronze, iron; water, fire, stone:
Five will return, and one go on alone.
